About

My photograph collections emphasis is outdoor photography, landscapes, and stills with historic objects or the occasional animal picture. My early days of photography focused on the Sierra Nevada in California, and many trips to Yosemite National Park. My training was in the field, and by studying the works of Ansel Adams and Galen Rowell. For nearly two decades of photography I used a Nikon camera shooting 35mm slides. Then for the last twelve years I have been using a Canon PowerShot camera. Now I am working with a Canon EOS 80D 24.2 megapixel camera with a Canon 18-55 IS STM and 55-250 IS STM lenses, and a Tamron 10-24mm F/35.-4.5 lens.

My print on-demand book Nevada Visions has 150 outdoor photographs taken over a ten year period. My Chile 100 project contrasts the extreme desert in the north to the glacial landscapes in the south. Peru 100 book presents 19 years of travel to this spectacular Andean Nation, having pictures from the arid coast, highland villages, and some from the Amazon basin. Doors of South America presents 300 photographs of historic doors from nine countries. The door compositions come with symmetry, and symbolism, covering a wide variety of colors, contrasts, and styles by region makes for a dialogue on culture. In my current project Lima 100 studies historic Spanish buildings, street scenes, and people in traditional folk dance-parades.

Ongoing work shooting Denver, Colorado covers urban images featuring horizon with vanishing point or converging lines, close-up details, grids, patterns, curves, and ascending perspectives. Several more 100 book series are in the works.
